Yuichiro Kikuma

Yuichiro Kikuma was born in Japan 1982. He got his bachelor’s degree in Fine art and Painting in Wimbledon College of Art in 2010, and his master’s degree on Fine Art in Central Saint Martins in 2016. Yuichiro Kikuma currently lives and works in London, UK.

Kikuma discovers images that exist but is not noticed by the audience. In his art practice, the artist sees everyday and ordinary household items as tools that leave traces. The repeated tracks in the works are unique references to these items. He uses experimental methods, as well as traditional techniques in his work and this variety of techniques, are realized with the assistance of objects such as iron, dryer, and leaves found in nature. Working predominantly with ink, the artist creates a personal language with rhythmically repetitive traces. This language is embodied from traceable forms to abstract expression by using mostly ink. Encountering the works, one is invited to trace these silent tracks between what he sees, what he remembers and what sort of an emotional moment in his past this encounter with a simple intersection between life and nature harbours.
